Terms of use
Last updated 6 October 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Alex McFarlane, a sole trader based in Bologna, Italy (VAT number IT03588671200), who runs GutPut (“we”). By using the GutPut app you agree to them. How we handle your data is in the privacy policy.
GutPut is not a medical device
GutPut is a diary. It shows patterns in what you log. It doesn’t diagnose, treat or prevent any condition, and nothing it says is medical advice. Don’t start, stop or delay any treatment, or seeing a doctor, because of something GutPut shows you.
If you have blood in your stool, black stool, severe pain or symptoms that worry you, contact a doctor. In an emergency call 999 (UK) or 112 (EU).
The AI can get things wrong
GutPut’s assistant works out ingredients from your words and photos, and it can be wrong. That’s why nothing is logged until you approve it, so check each entry before you do.
A pattern means two things tend to happen together in your log. It doesn’t mean one causes the other, and a pattern based on a few days can be chance. GutPut tells you how much data each pattern rests on; take that into account.
Who can use GutPut
- You must be 18 or over.
- An account is for one person. Don’t use anyone else’s.
- You sign in with a code sent to your email, so anyone who can read that mailbox can get into your account. Keep it secure, and tell us if you think someone else has got in.
Price
GutPut is free. If we add paid features, we’ll tell you before they start, and you’ll never be charged for anything you haven’t chosen to buy.
Your data is yours
What you log belongs to you. You let us store and process it only to provide GutPut to you, as the privacy policy describes. We don’t use it to train AI models, and we don’t sell it.
Fair use
Please don’t:
- use GutPut for anything unlawful, or to upload anything unlawful;
- try to get into accounts or systems that aren’t yours;
- copy, decompile or reverse engineer the app, except where the law allows it;
- overload the service, or use automated tools to access it;
- use GutPut to build a competing product.
Our part
The GutPut name, design and software belong to us. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for as long as you have an account.
We’ll provide GutPut with reasonable care and skill. We may change or remove features, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. If we ever close GutPut, we’ll give you at least 30 days’ notice in the app, and you can ask us for a copy of your data before it closes.
Ending the agreement
You can stop at any time by deleting your account in the app. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Unless the law stops us, we’ll tell you why.
Liability
GutPut is provided free, as it is. We aren’t responsible for decisions you make based on what it shows you, for loss you could reasonably have avoided, or for loss that wasn’t foreseeable when you started using it.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit. Nothing here affects your rights as a consumer.
Apple and Google
If you got GutPut from the App Store or Google Play, their terms also apply. For the iPhone app:
- these terms are between you and us, not Apple, and we, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content;
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it;
- if the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund the price you paid for it, which is nothing; Apple has no other warranty obligation for it;
- we, not Apple, are responsible for handling any claims about the app, including product liability, failure to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection and intellectual property claims;
- you confirm you aren’t in a country under a US government embargo, and aren’t on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties;
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and can enforce them against you.
Changes to these terms
When we change these terms we update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters, we tell you in the app before it applies. If you don’t agree, you can delete your account before the change takes effect.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Italian law. If you live in the UK or elsewhere in the EU, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.
If something goes wrong, email support@gutput.com first. Most things can be sorted out that way.
